hold in his arm:

The dad of a teen girl killed in a horror car crash en route to her prom held his little girl in his arms as she passed away.

Kiea McCann, 17, was riding with Dlava Mohammed, 16, when their car collided with a tree just outside Clones in Ireland's County Monaghan on Monday night. Last night it emerged that Kiea's heartbroken dad Frankie tenderly held his daughter as her life left her after he arrived at the scene not long after the impact.

The students from Largy College were en route to their Debs party - a formal ball for final year secondary school students - usually called a "prom" in the UK and US. As they made their way to a nearby hotel where the prom was being held, their vehicle skidded off the road due to the treacherous, wet conditions.

Before the fatal journey, Kiea's parents told how their daughter and her pals had held a party at their home before they went off to enjoy the major milestone. Speaking to the Irish Independent, Frankie said: “There was great excitement in the house before they went out. We had food and Champagne and balloons and it was going to be a great night.”

Her mother Teresa added Kiea and Dlava had been best friends for years. She said: “She was great to everybody. It will be hard on all the young people. Hard on all the friends.”

The driver, who is in his 60s, is a friend who offered them a lift. He and another teenage girl were also left in a critical condition in hospital. The girl’s condition is now said to be stable while a teenage boy left with non-life threatening injuries is expected to make a full recovery, reports the Irish Mirror.

A five-year-old boy has tragically died after he drowned in a swimming pool, just an hour after arriving at a holiday resort with his family.

Robin Caliskan had only just got to the Atlantic Reach holiday park in Newquay with his family. He had helped his mum and dad, Ferzane and Cemal Caliskan, pitch their tent before heading for a swim with them and his six-month-old baby brother, Renas.

We just wanted to share this to stop it happening again, to any other parents and any other children."

Describing little Robin, Cemal said he "loved hugs" and was a "very cute and clever" little boy. "He was intelligent and his handwriting, he could write with both hands," he said. Robin adored his baby brother Renas and "would love to put him on his legs and rock him".

Atlantic Reach issued a short statement on social media following the incident yesterday. A post on their Facebook page read: "We have closed our Leisure Club for the remainder of this evening. We do apologise for this short notice.
